Babcock Media Services has an exciting opportunity for a Satellite Services Manager.
You will represent Babcock in all matters relating to our contract with the BBC to distribute World Service programming around the globe. Babcock is a leading service provider to the communications industry, operating in the broadcast infrastructure, mobile and fixed telecommunications markets in the UK and internationally.
As the Satellite Services Manager you will manage the portfolio of contracts between the BBC and various Satellite providers to ensure all service level agreements and KPI’s are being met or exceeded. You will be responsible for the on-going delivery of the contracts, closely monitoring suppliers’ performance, while simultaneously building and maintaining strong working relationships. You will cover all aspects of supplier management, from commercial negotiations, contract administration to presenting market intelligence to ensure the BBC continues to obtain the best value from its service providers. Working within the BBC team you will understand future challenges and be able to identify and resolve any technical or service issues. From your relationship with suppliers, you will ensure the BBC is able to take advantage of new technical developments: a key part of the role is to maintain your knowledge through your contact network and share any developments and opportunities with the BBC as they occur.
We are looking for individuals who have a sound knowledge of satellite technology, preferably within the media distribution arena although those with other satellite experience will be considered. Proven experience of negotiating and managing supplier contracts in the telecommunications, IT or broadcast media industry is essential, alongside owning and developing a strategic relationship plan with suppliers. A broad knowledge of digital engineering principles as applied to content distribution and transmission is required, including: DVB-S systems and coding & mux technologies, video standards and HD, V-Sat and satellite based IP systems.
The successful candidate will hold a recognised professional qualification in Communications Engineering, Engineering, Maths or Physics or a related discipline at degree level.
