IMG Sports Media are looking for a Head of Production to support the Managing Director to achieve the departmental business and creative objectives. The position is responsible for line managing all non-editorial staff and freelancers working on particular projects within the department.
Reporting to the Director of Production, the Head of Production will be responsible for producing budgets and the financial management of projects. Additionally, the role, in conjunction with the Director of Production and IMG Legal Department, will also be responsible for all commercial negotiations, rights and clearances, and contractual issues relating to commissioning agreements with broadcasters and other commissioners.
Additionally, the role will involve overseeing the production management of programmes commissioned including (in conjunction with the Director of Production and/or Executive Producers) selection and management of all staff and freelancers (excluding Producers and Directors). The Head of Production will also be responsible for line managing Production Managers and all other non-editorial staff working on HOP’s projects, providing training or arranging for training and supervising development of these staff members as appropriate. In addition, the Head of Production will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of IMG’s Health and Safety policies and procedures within the Department and productions that emanate from Department.
The ideal candidate will have a calm and professional manner when working under pressure, excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across several productions simultaneously without close supervision, meeting deadlines whilst maintaining appropriate service levels and cost budgets. Candidates will be expected to have considerable experience of producing production budgets for a variety of programming; negotiating deals and contracts with third parties and negotiating commissioning/licensing agreements with broadcasters. Knowledge of copyright, music and archive clearance procedures and experience of managing production teams is also essential.
Knowledge of, and contacts within, the UK Broadcast Industry, commercial affairs experience and previous experience in sports programming would be advantageous. Previous experience as an established Head of Production or Production Executive (working on a range of genres including live outside broadcast and studio programming, factual entertainment, documentary and magazine series) and experience of implementing Health & Safety procedures are also essential.
