Regional Script Development Executive

Based: Budapest, Hungary

Part of Time Warner Inc. – the global leader in media and entertainment – HBO Central Europe has over 200 employees and provides both basic and premium TV channels to 14 countries in the region, including Hungary, Poland, the Czech and Slovak Republics and Romania. In 2009, it reached a milestone of two million subscribers and total continues to grow. HBO is currently collaborating with regional distribution platforms to test innovative new technologies and services.

HBO Central Europe is looking for a Script Development Executive to identify and develop winning, fiction projects – both originals and adaptations from international scripted formats. The individual will also support our local development teams select material, choose local writers and develop projects from initial idea through to shooting script. The goal for the fiction genre is to produce two series in each of these four territories every year.

Day-to-day, this will involve evaluating submissions, recommending projects, overseeing writer selection and assessing outlines, treatments and scripts as the work is delivered (in English translation). He or she will also prepare notes for HBO executives and writers, supervise local executives through the development process and ensure production deadlines are met.

Candidates will have a nose for successful drama projects and understand the script development process inside out. With a strong track record identifying distinctive and innovative series and miniseries ideas that are channel appropriate, individuals will have the confidence to supervise development with third-party producers and act as a mentor to development executives and script writers in the region.

An understanding of television drama scripting at a technical level is essential. Familiarity with the international scripted format marketplace is desirable. Candidates will have worked with a studio, broadcaster or production company in a similar role. Experience working with scripts in translation would be helpful.
