Job Introduction

BBC Northern Ireland provides a rich mix of content on TV, Radio and Digital platforms for local and UK audiences.  Our core tasks of reflecting society in all its different aspects, providing impartial news and current affairs and showcasing the stories, talent and creativity of Northern Ireland are as important today as at any time in our history. There is a strong appetite for local programmes on TV and Radio and we are finding new ways to provide relevant content to audiences via digital platforms.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Head of Content Production to join us.  This is a key role with responsibility for creating and leading a multi-genre production team that can work across TV, Radio, and Digital.  With productions ranging from Nolan Live and The Arts Show, to much loved radio shows such as On Your Behalf and Across the Line, to Sport and big events such as Proms in the Park, to documentaries such as True North, and innovative learning and digital content such as Bitesize, this is a great time to join as we enter a new Charter period and a new phase of development and investment.

Main Responsibilities

As Head of Content Production you’ll be integral to the delivery of our content plans for Northern Ireland.  Reporting to Director BBC NI, as a key member of our NI Senior Leadership team you’ll provide overarching editorial leadership to all production genres outside News and Current Affairs, whilst playing a critical role in contributing to and developing content strategy. You will be expected to work with colleagues across the BBC and have the opportunity to firmly establish and align your team to achieve our ambitious plans.

The Ideal Candidate

A recognised programme making expert, ideally you’ll have significant experience gained in a range of production environments with a track record for delivering exceptional programming.   A creative leader, you will have the credibility and experience to manage such a diverse portfolio and will have a passionate interest in local audiences in Northern Ireland.  Furthermore, you will demonstrate the ambition and creativity to deliver significant audience impact and will have the ability and profile to be a key player in the NI creative sector and within the wider BBC.
