Job Description

The Assistant Editor is a key supporting role for Broadcast Compliance Editors, Editors, Lead Editor and will be a liaison between Programme Operations teams, Broadcast Technology, Ingest and all lines of business. Our client is a major international broadcaster and this is a very exciting opportunity as an Assistant Editor who will be encouraged and given the tools to develop and grow the skill sets needed to be a successful Editor. The focus of the Assistant Editor is to become an expert on Avid functionality, session workflows and project organization. 



Creating Avid projects, capturing and logging footage, prepping and importing graphics and audio files, synching audio to the video, managing media and editing basic projects with low complexity, predominantly dealing with edits that require a wide variety of fixes.

Maintaining project organization

The Assistant Editor will also be in charge of the housekeeping of the AVID ISIS servers and workspaces using Interplay Access.

Other Avid functions required of this position include but are not limited to: 

  • Import, export and conform AAFs and EDLs, relink and batch import 
  • Import, AMA link and transcode raw footage, log media and synch audio to the video 
  • Export clips for presentations 
  • Convert sample rates and formats, consolidate and transcode media 
  • Modify clips and add custom columns in bins, create multi-clips for multi-camera shows 
  • Designing and implementing deletion policies for ISIS users 
  • Usage of Avid Interplay Systems and tools like Interplay Access 
  • Create, add and version titles, build and version stringouts for output 
  • Make basic changes to a sequence as per the Editor / Supervisor / Manager’s instructions, add and animate graphics to a sequence and assemble rough cuts from a script based on sound bytes 
  • Create and distribute various media files as instructed 
  • Dealing with QC Fails 



Excellent communication skills & ability to take and follow directions and complete reporting as required Qualifications for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • 1 year of technical experience in this industry preferably in an Edit environment
  • University degree in TV/Broadcast, Communications or a related field preferred
  • Familiarity with the Avid Non-Linear Editing systems and encoding software like Sorenson Squeeze, Adobe Encoder
  • Familiarity with graphic design and software like After Effects, Photoshop, Cinema 4D, DaVinci Resolve
  • Aptitude that would allow completion of the Avid Capture Technician course
  • Working knowledge of NTSC/PAL standards and conversions
  • Intermediate knowledge of file-based workflows and procedures
