Job Description

The Head of Development reports to the Managing Director of TV Production. 
 
They will originate and develop ideas across all factual genres, for the UK and internationally. The candidate will manage the development slate and team and should have strong relationships to key commissioners. They will be expected to drive the development strategy alongside ITNP’s Executive Producers and be able to identify opportunities for new business and growth. They will have a good knowledge of ITNP's existing portfolio and be committed to diversity, inclusion and a culture of collaboration both on and off screen.
 
They must have a proven track record of winning commissions, pitching, writing and producing sizzles. They will display a strong working knowledge of commissioner needs and have an enthusiasm for developing ideas as part of a team, combined with the ability to take personal responsibility for pushing projects forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the broadcast development team in the generation of programme ideas and proposals 
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of the television landscape and the major broadcasters’ needs, devising and developing programmes to suit those needs
  • Keep abreast of and contribute to maintaining ITN Productions’ relationships with key commissioning editors
  • Create imaginative pitching materials and engaging programme proposals
  • Pitch ideas to broadcasters, collaborating with the appropriate Executive Producer(s)
  • Lead brainstorms
  • Manage the allocation of development resources across the slate, in line with the wider departmental strategy
  • Manage the development slate of ideas, maintaining a record of broadcaster meetings, projects and proposals as they move through the development process
  • Recruit development staff as required in response to the ebb and flow of the development slate, liaising with relevant Executive Producer(s)
  • Manage the development budget, liaising with relevant Executive Producer(s)
  • Support other ITN Productions departments with creative and development engagement
  • As the development lead in the senior broadcast team, contribute to ongoing departmental discussions around ITN Productions’ strategic direction
  • Work with the Managing Director to identify new opportunities and retain existing custom
